That portion of my sig is a direct quote from Akrasia. He/she should be mindful of what he/she posts.

I didn't see you popping up to warn Akrasia for its use.

    Posts like this derail debate

As I said a few days back debate on Climate change is far too shrill and personalized

Can we tone it down a little as this is a important matter to discuss, and personal nastiness discourages other participants as well as readers

The most likely result for Ireland and North Western Europe is an increase in average wind speeds and rainfall and possibly a massive temperature plummet if the gulf stream and jet stream were to be disrupted in anyway.

These incidents in France, the US, our recent floods etc could simply be freak weather, however it's rather over-simplistic to argue that one cold snap = "see the world's getting colder"

Global Warming is quite likely to see more extreme weather patterns in quite a lot of places as more moisture is evaporated into the atmosphere and more turbulent airflows are developed by raised temperatures.
This is classic. Just a bunch of vague "predictions" thrown into the air. This list is ripe for cherrypicking "proof" as a result.

But just to address the "more extreme weather" claims. There is no apparent evidence of more extreme weather around the world. None. not in insurance claims, not in measures of tropical storm frequency, or intensity. Surely, surely, we should be able to measure something by now?

But let's deal with a more fundamental point. Should we expect more extreme weather or, as you put it "more turbulent airflows"? Weather is not a function of energy per se, but the transfer of energy.

The Dangerous Anthropogenic Climate Change Hypothesis actually predicts that the poles will have larger temperature changes than the tropics; that the temperature difference acorss the sytem will fall. Global energy recycling should diminish if anything. We should get less extreme weather events as the energy distibution becomes more unifrom.
But there is evidence of more extreme weather around the world. On insurance claims, more insurance claims were paid out this winter than the previous ten winters in Ireland. Over half a billion euro in fact. I expect similar patterns in other developed countries in Europe and America where extreme weather took place.

In measures of tropical storm frequency, Northeast Brazil only began to get hurricanes in the last decade.

And then we haven't had rain in Dublin for 5 weeks. Similar situation last September.

Your claim is similar to the line that "there is no evidence for global warming" - lazy and untenable.

AGW predicts that the poles will have larger temperature changes than the tropics; this is what has been already observed.

"But do 'climategate' revelations justify the sceptics’ claims that this is “the final nail in the coffin” of global warming theory? Not at all. They damage the credibility of three or four scientists. They raise questions about the integrity of one or perhaps two out of several hundred lines of evidence."

Here's an article from a year discussing the 2009 solar minimum in relation to the solars minimums from a century ago and during the medieval Maunder period which saw a mini ice age on the planet.

So according to that clip Ireland from June to August 2009 was above average temperatures?

Yeah what a scorcher last summer was! I fried like a lobster in those searing +30C heat.

GO here and read up. This blog is pack with discussion on the literature. There is no sign of climate change affects on disaster losses.

    Trends in tropicals storms:
In terms of global tropical cyclone frequency, it was concluded25 that there was no significant change in global tropical storm or hurricane numbers from 1970 to 2004, nor any significant change in hurricane numbers for any individual basin over that period, except for the Atlantic (discussed above). Landfall in various regions of East Asia26 during the past 60 years, and those in the Philippines27 during the past century, also do not show significant trends.
. . . a detectable change in tropical-cyclone-related rainfall has not been established by existing studies.
There is no conclusive evidence that any observed changes in tropical cyclone genesis, tracks, duration and surge flooding exceed the variability expected from natural causes.
. . . we cannot at this time conclusively identify anthropogenic signals in past tropical cyclone data.
