No disprespect Fraxinus and Biffo but I don't do the 'group' thing here. I'd like anything I say to be readable to everybody who visits the site. There are many anonymous visitors here and if I can make one more person do some good for animal welfare (or garden birds) then that's a good thing. Many of the great tips and useful advice in this thread alone could have been lost on many people if posted in a private group (or a public one that's not readily viewable to an anonymous or new member). I hope you'll understand where I'm coming from (and no need to reply as it'll only drag this thread seriously off-topic, discussing groups). You know you can always PM me at any time

Back to all things birds. Here's a link to some fantastic photos* of birds (and other wildlife) by professional wildlife photographer Hugh Harrop from the Shetlands. Some very rare species are photographed on his site. Many were taken in Scotland and the outer islands. It just makes me go want to there right now with me camera:

    Birds Gallery by Hugh Harrop

    and

Rare & Scarce Shetland & Scottish Birds

(click the 'Home' link in upper right of page to go back to view other spectacular wildlife photos)

Incredible stuff altogether. Enjoy, and please respect his copyright

We all love animals. Why do we call some 'pets' and others 'dinner'?

Thanks again Biffo. I'm outside my Aldi now on WiFi, in a sleeping bag with me Thermos flask loaded with vegetable Knorr

Only kidding, but I will go there at 9 a.m. It's been selling like hotcakes these past few weeks. It's good to know so many people are feeding them. They might be in a fatball fight with Annie tomorrow morning though

Why, you want to get the Birdfood before the birds?

We still have Redwings in Cork, and while walking home this evening in a balmy 10 degrees.

All the birds were singing and thinking about "lurve".

The question is now do we have a new specis in Ireland, will they stay for good now that they have tasted the fine cuisine.

Why fly back to Russia for mince meat, when you can stay in Cork and have steak?

No, before Biffo. I think he's hooking up a trailer for his Aldi run
