However, if there was a large body of evidence to suggest that something was very likely, and that the consequences of that something were potentially catastrophic, but that there were things that could be done to mitigate those consequences, and that those things while difficult would not be catastrophic, then only an idiot would chose the option of doing nothing and just hoping for the best.

unfortunately, the only body of evidence that you have that catastrophe, or even a little mild discomfort is facing us is forecasts,. Yes forecasts, as in projection, extrapolation, conjecture, crystal ball gazing.

I personally think that pollution from plastic of all types in all environments is at least as big a problem as Greenhouse gases. Most plastic usage is unnecessary anyway and their are more and more biodegradible alternatives. The cost of disposal for plastic rubbish of all kinds is enormous and adds costs to business and householder alike
