    Seamus Rogers - record breaker?

I notice that Seamus Rogers is standing for Labour again in Donegal SW.

It seems that Seamus has already put his name forward for election 15 times since 1961 for 5 different parties at Dail, local & European level, & has been rejected by the voters on each & every occasion. And now he's having a 16th shot at it.

Is this unalloyed record of electoral failure over the best part of half a century a record for the state, or indeed for any other state?

I wonder what sort of odds I'd get on him being elected this time.

Still, it's hard not to admire the man.

You are mistaken. Seamus Rodgers was elected to Donegal County Council several times.

He was elected in 1991, 1985, 1979. First elected back in 1960.

And a great counillor he was.Seamus was a great public rep, highly involved in local issues and respected. Its just a pity he jumped about from party to party so much, he lost the respect of the bulk of his electorate.

If he'd stayed with Sinn Fein he may have been in the Dail long time ago!!

He might not have the record for party swapping though----BTW how many different partys was Dr Noel Browne of Mother and child scheme fame a member of---at least 3 as far as I can remember ,was there any more :
The crown above the red hand is that of the O'Neill rulers of Ulster---not the Saxe-coborg gotha usurpers crown

I recollect that he was elected to Donegal CC once in 1991 and I do not remember if he retained the seat in 99! There was an 8 year gap between CC elections in the 90's.
