No pre-election pact for the Greens...

According to today's Irish Times, 4 out out 6 Green TDs don't want to enter a pre-election pact with Labour and FG......is this yet ANOTHER set back for the Mulligar Accord?

Are FF to romp home again because the opppostion don't seem to be on any level capable of presenting a united front!?!

I think this Mullingar Accord suits only one party. That is FG. Labour and The Greens are going to loose out. The greens and Laobour should fight their own corner which will give them more seats in the next dáil at the expense of FG amongst others. After which they should see how the numbers fall and secure the best deal for themselves. As for this transfer pact I can't see it being to their advantage.

I don't think any pre election pact with the Greens is on the table really. The Mulligar Accord is between Fine Gael and Labour, it doesn't go any farther then that. FG would prefer to be able to get into government with just Labour. However if we don't get enough seats then we have to start asking the Greens or the PDs.

don't need to be lined up next to the greens, to many farmers will be scared off at the idea of them being in government. but if the numbers are right after the election, there is no way the greens would support FF rather then FG.

Labour and The Greens are going to loose out.
    How exactly?

I assume from blue33's ID that he's a Fine Gael supporter? What makes you think that the Greens would prefer Fine Gael to Fianna Fail? I understand that that would probably be the public perception, but it is the considered public perception? What advantage, in terms of negotiations for a future government, is there in choosing FG over FF?

If labour stands alone they will pick up transfers from most parties. If they allign themselves to FG and refuse to enter government with FF. They have closed off FF transfers.

However if Labour stands alone and does well they could be the deal breakers in the next dáil. They could choose who to go into government with depending on who offers them the best deal.

The Greens and FG rural policy differs greatly. If FG are seen to support green policy they will loose out and vice versa.

I don't think the Greens would go into government with either party unless they got more than just one cabinet post. So what advantage, assuming cabinet positions were on offer from both parties, would FG have over FF?

It will all come done to numbers again. FF will give the Greens what they want (within reason of course) to hold onto power. Both parties will be happy.
The Green will coalese with FF or FG, because that how politics works. Pragmatism will win the day.
