Thanks for them, Does anybody know what the national standing of the parties were for the 1991 Local Elections?

    1991 locals overall %
    FF 37.8 %
    FG 26.6%
    Labour 10.6%
    PD 4.9%
    WP 3.7%
    GP 2.4%
    SF 2.1 %
    Oth 11.9%

Have the results on paper, so if theres any other co councils or LEA you want the results from I can type them up at some stage.

Striking how well the WP were doing. 2 elected and White must have gotten sod-all transfers in Blackrock. And 3.7% nationally is pretty good when you consider how few wards they must have contested.

Maybe there has always been a left-wing seat waiting for an occupant in Dun Laoghaire?

Eamonn Gilmore spent years nibbling at Barry Desmond's bum before he got elected. It will be interesting to see if Boyd Barrett does the same to Gilmore. What people outside the area fail to realise is that there are large pockets of poverty in Dun Laoghaire - not everyone works for RTE. Looking at the figures from the locals and comparing Boyd Barrett's vote in the General to his local vote, it appears that his support is concentrated in the Dun Laoghaire area which will not be enough to get a seat in a 4 seater.

The Ballybrack LEA has returned Gilmore, O'Callaghan & Smyth (Frank & Carrie) in the past few Local Elections , where Hugh Lewis PBP was elected in 2009. Between R Boyd Barrett 4091 votes & Hugh Lewis 2175, PBP must be well on the way to a seat at the next general election.
Dun Laoghaire as a 5 seater has returned both Labour & Workers Party in the same election (1992).
This could seriously damage FG in their attempt to get 2 seats in Dun Laoghaire next time out. D
un Laoghaire at the GE - FF 1, FG 1, Lab 1, PBP 1. Not how I would like to see it but a real possibility.
Richard Boyd Barrett really does remind me of a young Eamon Gilmore, he has an ability to get votes across the whole constituency.

As far as I can recall, BB ended up with around 6,000 votes in General, which was not high enough in a 5 seater so its unlikely he'll be a TD anytime soon, especially with Gilmore in the field. It will be interesting to see if Gilmore has a strong running mate. Unless FG really get their act together, they won't take out Hanafin, who I believe is the weaker FF TD.

I think BB may endure the same fate as Clare Daly at the last election.
She was hotly tipped to get in, but fell just short for a second time.
Sounds like i'm stating the obvious, but if the election is about forming a government,( ie FG/Labour are actually seen as a serious alternative government) then the likes of BB wont get in as people will be voting in a government rather than just protesting at the current one. (if that makes sense)

Interestingly the WP share of the vote fell nationally from 4.9% in the 1989 general election to 3.7% in the 1991 locals.

Its the % of the PBP vote that is the worry for FF/FG & Lab.
