    sligo/north leitrim, roscommon/south leitrim ELECTION 2007

SF maybe strong in Sligo town itself but however they are weak in other areas of the county, for example, South Sligo where FG TD John Perry and Sen. ScanlonFF are based, therefore realistically speaking SF won't materialise in getting a seat.
Perry has worked extremely hard on a continual basis delivering and raising issues on behalf of the people of Sligo North Leitrim and his hard work will again pay dividends in the next GE. Upcoming conventions will determine where the vote will go.Cllr. Imelda Henry, as well as tony, has also been touted to run along side Perry in the next election. She would certainly get a strong Sligo town/West Sligo vote and reclaim the Harkin votes(fingers crossed!!).
The pressure will be on for all parties be it FG, FF, SF, Lab involved to the get the maximum representation.
As regards Roscommon/Sth. Leitrim hoping for Naughten and Feighan to get 2 seats eventhough it will be a challenge but one where that every vote will be fought for throughout the constituency like their neighbours in Sligo/ North Leitrim! The third seat in ros/sth.leitrim likely to be Ellis.

    Hi all..

In relation to the Macs, i agree, they have peaked - I wouldnt put Chris on the card for the sake of a candidate at this stage - hes not a chip of the auld block.

    sligo/north leitrim

From convention held in radisson hotel sligo on friday night. 3 candidates on the FG ticket(John Perry, Imelda Henry, Comiskey) as per HQ directive, no vote as expected as Cllr. Tony McLoughlin withdrew. It'll be an election fought with fervour to get Enda as next Taoiseach 15mths down the line!! looking forward to it already!!

Are any of those FG candidates from the Leitrim area? Running 3 candidates in this area is very silly in my opinion. Tony McLoughlin would have been a very good choice given his massive vote in 04, was Perry afraid he could beat him?

Michael Comiskey is from North Leitrim and is the current National Chair of the IFA Hillfarming Committee.

Tony Mac's decision to withdraw was due to personal reasons.

Michael Comiskey is from Leitrim gave an impressive speech by all accounts. Cllr Tony Mc Loughlin withdrew from the race due to family reasons I understand, all candidates expressed understanding and goodwill to Tony and family given the such circumstances for withdrawing. Never a question of who could out do the other, Perry always has a strong base across the constituency.

As regards Roscommon South Leitrim I predict Naughton to top the poll, Finneran second. As regards the last seat it will be very close between Feighan and Ellis but I think Feighan will scrap it for two reasons. One Kenny will damage Ellis and two, Naughton transfers will go to him!!!

Can we have single constituency discussions only please?

There are many many sections of the site that are relevant to both, but having a thread about two at the same time is a little bad.
