FG have a lot of thinking in DSW, following really woeful results in the Local Elections. Candidate selection, done in a way to move on the " dead wood2 really did backfire. I for one initially thought what FG did with its candidate selection was a positive, in so far as preventing some hairy-ass from up the mountains getting on a ticket. But too optimistic in some areas, too many candidates and a really soggy vote in Stranolar and Glenties does not bode well.

For Gods sake get Dinny pensioned off before the next GE and run 1 candidate to hold the single seat. FF will still get two even if half the coastline falls into the sea.

Lord Henry Mountcharles would of course be a local candidate in Donegal SW.
He might be a bit too rock-and-roll so Danial O'Donnell might be a better choice.

After all if Richard Bruton can have his soul-mate in Dublin South,
surely Enda deserves his soul-mate in Donegal SW.

Out of curiosity, what connection does old Oddsocks have to Donegal SW?

MountCharles lies between Donegal town and Killybegs.
The village is named for its founder, Charles Conyngham, an ancestor of Lord Henry Mountcharles of Slane Castle, County Meath. Conyngham is credited with building the village in the 17th century.

When it comes to dynasties, the Conynghams put the Coughlans in the halfpenny place.

Does anyone have a feel for whether Pearse Doherty could pull if off in this constituency? It would be great to have Pearse in the Dail.

Think you asked this before, maybe not in this thread.

Answer is still the same. He doesn't have enough first preferences and he won't get enough transfers so he won't get elected.

You may think it would be great to have him in the Dail, and you are entitled to your opinion, but unless an awful lot of voters in DSW suddenly come around to the same opinion it won't happen.

Yet another double-entendre-packed post from Factual. You sir are a comedic genius.

Their Dublin South strategy worked wonders. OTOH their Dublin central approach of running a well-known local boy didn't deliver the goods.

Could they parachute in someone spectacular? If so who?
Has anyone picked a candidate yet because I haven't heard one announced yet?
