    Ban Election Posters

I know that there is already a thread on Election Posters, but it seems to be given over to how much they cost and what they are made of, however I think that we should ban posters. They are unsightly and IMHO not required. I would like to know what the rest of P.ie thinks!

In Japan the Council supplies a large billboard and that is the only place that you can put them and in limited numbers. As in, there is a large billboard in your local town and there is a single poster of each candidate on that billboard.

I agree with the designated billboard approach.
I hate posters, yet I oversaw the putting up of 125 of the bugggers.

If the others have them, we have to have them.

    Time for change IMHO.

I love election posters. I think they add to the razzmatazz of elections and are a necessary party of campaigning. I know that they are not strictly necessary. John Gallagher gets elected to the City Council without them, however for people who are brand new, they are essential. It creates the presence which is required to be seen as a viable candidate.

Those who see them as unsightly are mistaken. I see them as quite beautiful, adding to our communities across the country. Civic decorations if you will!

They are a great alternative to the communication of policy.

    razzmatazz me brown eye.
I'm old enough to remember the polling station pestering that went on in the name of razzmatazz. I'm glad that's gone and postering is no different.

Yeah, I was in Rome a couple of weeks ago and all their euro elections posters were on permanently erected billboards. Party activists went around every morning and pasted their candidates posters over existing posters. The result was literally layers of posters up to 10 to 12 inches deep lol.

Election posters- while they are a pain in the backside to put up and an even bigger pain to take down (especially in the rain)- are a necessary part of the campaign- they help to generate a buzz about elections and get people talking about different candidates.

I'm old enough to remember candidates driving round with loudspeakers on top of cars and after mass speeches by opposing candidates- all democracy in action- we don't see enough of it I think.

A certain proportion of people have lost interest in elections and politics, this is largely due to having FF in power for so long, but also to the dumbing down of election campaigns- there should be more fuss and razzmatazzz and bigger posters IMHO to engage the public..

We have a situation where the Taoiseach and Tanaiste, and the Minister for Fun and Helicopter Rides(Cullen) were practically invisible during the campaign, locked away out of sight perhaps- no wonder a huge amount of people don't turn out to vote..

Oh and Quizmaster's buddies and motley indos should consider not propping up the Zanu FF regime!
