We are being bought and paid for in my view. We could have afforded it ourselves if our politicians had the balls or the 'will'.

The PART funds for our projects are used as a tool to win over favour from the Irish people to form a positive view of the EU. It worked on you it seems.

If we kept our fish stocks, we could have afforded a lot more.

My own personal view is that the whole Libertas pan-European project was such a distraction that it may well have cost him the seat. As in every other Member State the electorate voted on national issues, be that to give the government a kicking or whatever. Decko was attempting to run before he could walk. Even going back to Lisbon there was the episode with the Austrians, spending a couple of days in Vienna presenting a protest into the government with a bunch who do not even have a vote in our referendum is just a total waste of time. If the people behind Libertas stayed focused on Ireland they would now have one MEP and two half decent performances in East and Dublin. I am sorry if this analysis cuts to the bone for some Libertas posters on here but it has to be said!

Ah yeah, Ireland on its own could easily have come up with the billions to fun all the infrastructutal projects etc over the last few decades. It's not like being a member of the EU has made us an attractive option to foreign multinationals or anything. And its hardly as though the EU gave us as much money as we could have gotten from, say, our fishing industry.

ActuallyYourWrong, well by virtue of your name I've just said it. You've no idea what you're on about if you think we could have come up with all that funding on our own. This country would be in the sh!ts if not for our membership of the EU. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living in their own little fantasy world.

Now, how many articles, written during the election campaign, can you find, which outline the visions of FF, FG or Labour for the EU?
These questions simply were not asked and Irish journalists should hang their heads in shame for the simplistic, even childish, analysis which they applied to the campaign. As a nation we are now no better informed about the workings of the EU than we were before the EP elections. We are sending MEPs to represent our interests without knowing their positions on vital economic and social matters because they were quizzed about potholes in Ballymagash.
For example, the issues of FF's new-found liberal ethos and of FG's pursuit of a federal Europe were never teased out by the Irish media. They were too busy, like schoolyard bullies, trying to outdo one another in shredding Ganley. The ultimate losers are the Irish people.
Vision? The Libertas policy page STILL says their policy will be up in a few weeks! Come off it.

I find this hero worship of Ganley very disturbing. In truth I find hero worship of any politican disturbing, much less one who in 12 short months has earned as much of my scorn as CJH!!!! And that's saying a lot.

In fact most multmillionaires are on the Left, not the Right. I reject the attempt to equate wealth with the Right. The Far Right across Europe get their support from the working-class. The Left have long since abandoned the working-class in favour of champagne socialism.

With Lisbon II on the way, the fight for a more democratic Europe impeded by the Treaty goes on. A second defeat would finally force the main parties to open the Europe issue to debate internally and allow their members put their heads above the parapets on it or come across at the out of touch zombie-robots they are.

It's great how all these Irish people suddenly so interested in Europe are thinking about whats best for all the people in it isn't it. Despite the fact that the rest of Europe seem happy enough with the Treaty. But then this is from the person who seems to think you can charge corporate tax on actual transactions and therefore believes that Lisbon will allow the EU hit our corporate tax rate. All total rubbish obviously, part of a pattern maybe?
