FT, Gildea wasn't a politician. He was a frontman for some people who didn't want to pay for their TV signal. What platform do you suggest he runs on now, legalising dodgy boxes?
"Elite - a small superior group; esp one that has a power out of proportion to its size." (Oxford English Dictionary)

The majority cannot therefore be the elite.

The Cope has to take his seat in EP. Also, the Cope wants to go back to EU. Said he regret ever leaving it and returning to national politics. No surprise, FF in polling trouble and the Cope also lost his junior ministry.

I think there's a young Fianna Fail councillor there by the name of Joe Kelly, who is not an enthusiastic Lisbon man, I would say might even be on the NO side, but is playing it cute. Got a good vote in the last general election in a less populated area of the constituency. Well got with Dana and Co and Pat the Cope. He gave up his job to be a full time councillor, and has drawn down less than half the expenses in comparison to most other councillors. One to watch perhaps.

Ticks all the right boxes and could well hold the set and give Cowan a boost.

FG can't out-poll FF in DSW, SF can't outpoll FF in DSW.

FG wont transfer to SF and vice versa, therefore FF will hold.

Senator Brian O Domhnaill will win for FF. He was appointed to succeed The Cope in 2012 anyway.

Most likely outcome but Labour is now in the mix with the success of Frank McBrearty Jnr, who is based in the Finn Valley area while all other likely contenders are at the other end of a very spread out constituency.

The big issue in this bye-election will not be national issues or the economy but cancer services in the area. A credible independant candidate standing on this issue would be the ultimate FF nightmare, and there have been several articulate women on local radio who would be ideal.

    There'll be a GE first, I suspect.

FF have a Senator here which everyone seems to be forgeting. He was a Bertie nominee but he dirtied his bib with the party by supporting his brother in the locals as an Indo against the official FF candidates. But Mount Street won't care about that if he can take the seat, although I am sure a number of influential people on the ground have memories like elephants. The seat will go to the opposition - take your pick from FG/SF/Labour. I'd put Pearse Doherty in the poll position myself.
