    Bye Election in Donegal?

Apologies if there is a thread on this already (I don't see it), but three quick questions:

    1. Does the dual mandate rule apply to MEPs?
    2. If so when will there be a bye eelection for Pat The Cope Gallagher's seat?
    3. Will one more loss prove fatal?

    1. Yes.
    2. Nobody knows. Not for several months anyway.
    3. Probably not. If the government is going to fall it will fall before that bye-election.

    Who knows?

Another question - would FF be so venal to substitute Gallagher in year's time and run him for his own seat in the natinoal interest.

    As I understand it:
    1. Yes, the dual mandate applies to MEPs. Pat the Cope is no longer a member of the Dáil and must take his seat in Europe next month.
    2. They will call a by-election whenever Cowen decides to do so. Look how long they waited in Dublin for the by-elections there.
    3. Any loss can prove fatal to the government now.

A huge opportunity for SF to make up lost ground and win a great propaganda victory. Pick Pearse Doherty this time.

There will never be a bye-election.

Mooney will be co-opted once a "dignified" time has passed. 2 months, or something.

Pat the Cope ceased to be a member of Dail Eireann last night.

The opposition should also begin to push this issue of allowing a year or more to pass before calling a by-election; there should be a maximum of six months.
