Relatively speaking he came within a whisker...

The other parties have spent decades building their profiles and getting their policies out there and they are all career politicians.

Ganley almost beat them all, despite it seems doing this as a hobby.

He's as well off out of politics anyways, it's full of snakes both in Ireland and Europe. If I saw any politician coming towards me I'd cross the street, because they don't really care about the issues, they care about your vote.

Anyone who thinks they will hear from Harkin, Higgins and Gallagher for the next five years is naive. They will dissapear into the great big EU undergrowth where they will obsess about the sourness of cherries.

Useful idiots to those who run the EU none the less, it gives a mirage of accountability and democracy.

Ganley was like a breath of fresh air. All the cartel politicians hated him because he represented a threat to the secretive carry-on over in Brussels which is covered up in the Irish media. I hope he will not desert us for Lisbon2.

I thoroughly appreciate Ganley's efforts on behalf of the Irish economy, and the economies of other EU countries too.

In these recessionary times, it was great to see an ordinary, humble multi-millionaire spend so much money on so much publicity, posters, printing and promotional materials.

I'm sure that all the billboard owners in Dublin and around Ireland share my sentiments too.

haha, Ganley was probably the best thing that could have ever happened to the poster printing and billboard industry
If you remove the English army tomorrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle, unless you set about the organisation of the Socialist Republic your efforts would be in vain.[...]

It would be tantamount to a public declaration that our oppressors had so far succeeded in inoculating us with their perverted conceptions of justice and morality that we had finally decided to accept those conceptions as our own, and no longer needed an alien army to force them upon us.

A little poem from The Emergency:

    So farewell, Declan Ganley.
You burned ballistcally across the Eurosky.
Ironically, you lacked a guidance system.

He was the classiest, most articulate man ever to grace the stage of Irish politics. Wore some damn nice suits too.

He is more establishment than any of the rest of them. Worse in fact as he's for an American style establishment. Now Comrade Joe gets respect because he is anti-establishment, and even though I disagree with him on nearly everything, he has substance.

I agree - American style politics - all style and no substance. Didn't fool us in the North West though. (And we're not overly fond of English accents).
Politicians are wonderful people as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, such as working for a living. (PJ O'Rourke)

I wasn't a great fan of Mr. Ganley but I admire him for shaking things up a bit. He took part in a democratic election. He didn't succeed but garnered a respectable vote. Fair play to him. He can walk away with his dignit and integrity intact.

Leaving us with the flotsam and jetsam which makes up the banal detritus of Irish politics.
