    Resignation before even elected

I've got word that a likely winner in the INW will resign soon after being elected, maybe before September.

    Anyone else hear similar.

I think under the rules, on election, his seat in the Dail is immediately forfeited. If he wanted to return to the Dail, he would have to fight a bye-election.

He was on RTÉ earlier saying that as soon as he gets elected as an MEP that he immediately stops being a TD. It's not a matter of going and resigning in a week or two. He confirmed he wouldn't even be in the Dáil tomorrow.

AFAIK (and this could be totally wrong), if Pat the Cope gets elected as an MEP, then his Dáil seat is automatically vacated.

Even if he resigned as an MEP straight away, and his replacement was Paschal Mooney, there would still have to be a by-election.

At least that's my understanding of the legal situation, but I'm not sure.

Pat the Cope is a fairly safe seat for FF id imagine... 50% of the vote at the last general election for Coughlan and Gallagher...
