    It's a publicity stunt I think. He knows he's lost but is staying in the limelight a bit longer. The returning officer only carries out recheck or recount if request by a candidate. If a candidate asks a Returning Officer to stand on is head, then that is what he does.

    I think it's bad form by hi but typical. However, with the possibility of 2 bye-elections coming up in Donegal South West, he may wish to know how he polled there, just in case he wants to make a run.

    Well, that would at least give her an opportunity to find out how many Commissioners each country has.

    I increasingly find him disconcerting (le mot juste!) too. A bit like not getting his way means kicking off "business" negotiations that can be resolved his way by force of lots of lolly and lawyers. So much for the garbage about elites.
