Euro for Euro, Ireland's most popular party. Joe's MEP salary will be huge boost for the party, which should give them a good chance of getting two seats in the next GE.

The SP made 1 gain but also 1 loss (Tallaght Central). PBP and the WP gained too, real Socialist parties have gained several new seats which is good for Socialism in Ireland.

Socialist Party won an extra seat in Castleknock and lost a seat in Tallaght Central. The Socialist Party also won a seat in Balbriggan Town Council.
    More importantly,
Ruth Coppinger was the first councillor elected in Mulhuddart,
Joe Higgins topped the poll in Castleknock and was elected on the first count,
Clare Daly topped the poll in Swords and was elected on the first count,
Mick Barry topped the poll in Cork City North Cnetral and was elected on the first count.
Frank Gallagher is involved in a recount for a seat on Drogheda Borough Council.
The first prefernce vote for the Socialist Party almost doubled since 2004.
11 candidates in 9 wards with 4 elected and 1 more involved in a recount.

And of course - Joe Higgins has gone from 5.5% in the 2004 Euros to 12.4% today with the distinct possibility of winning the seat.

This election has been a major step forward for the Socialist Party.

We have set a based to build from - we have consolidated the seats in Fingal by topping the poll. We are now in fighting for new seats in Balbriggan and Howth next time out. We have now put down a marker for the next General Election - Joe Higgins will probably be elected in Dublin West but we have distinct possibilities now in Dublin North with Clare Daly and Cork North Central with Mick Barry. And of course we could well have a Euro seat where Joe higgins has increased his vote from 5.5% to 12.4%.

So one MEP and one town councillor. The person to replace Higgins in Castleknock will not hold the seat but indeed will have a negative affect/effect amongst many Castleknock residents.

Higgins is the rock on which your party is built.

Higgins will be reelected to the Dáil. Whoever takes over his MEP seat will lose it next time. Still can't honestly see Daly being elected. So things will be back to normal in the Dáil with Higgins going on like he does, but then there will be presumably a FG/LB Govt. whose members in Government are generally not going to let him abuse them like the way bumbling Bertie did.

I'm actually looking forward to Higgins being in the Dáil in this way in a way.

Like Ruth Coppinger didn't hold the seat? Topping the poll twice? The rock upon which our party is built is the reputation of our activists. That is how Joe originally built his profile to where it is today.
Politics is boring. You sexless freaks are proof of that.
