It's worse for SF than I thought, they seem to have lost one in five of the voters who voted for them in 2004. They may now lose council seats rather than gaining them, and after the bad by-election results and the poor Euro tallies, it looks like it's been a very bad day for SF.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

Fr Hank Tree- Cheers for that.

Swing away from FF now is 6.3%

136 seats declared- 747 to come

    FG-31.6%-53 seats
    Lab- 18.4%-32 seats
    FF-23.1%-20 Seats
    Others-16.3%-21 seats
    SF-7.8%- 10 Seats

I agree with Keith- for SF i think this going to be a repeat of 2007, top the poll in the North but go backwards in the south.

    1. Too early to say any of this, as the count is not complete.

    2. Its important to acknowledge that in 2004 Sinn Féin had a really great local council result and so we are comparing with an election in which SF did particularly well.

    3. In 2004 SF was on 8% in locals and so far in this count RTE are saying 7.9% (or 8% when rounded to the nearest integer). Therefore SF have held onto and consolidated that significant achievement in 2004. That is a very commendable achievement.

Not so. This election shows Sinn Féin vote holding steady-it is steady sustainable growth that Sinn Féin aims for not unsustainably fast here today gone tomorrow growth that FG get.

    National figures on RTE,

    FF 23.2%

    to put that in perspective:

    SF (7.9%)+Independents(16.3%) = 24.2%

Worth pointing out that Sinn Féin performance should not be judged in locals until ALL results are in.

In terms of the two elections that we CAN comment on - the two bye elections in Dublin - Sinn Féin vote share is up in each of these.

Thus, Sinn Féin's record of increasing its vote share continues.

This increase in Dublin Central looks good for next time out at the General Election-it was always stated that this would take two successive General Elections for Sinn Féin to win.

No. SF would have taken the seat the last time if they had ran Nicky Kehoe instead of parachuting in MLM.
