Why no unemployed manning the elections.

apparently the junior clerks get €485 and the senior ones €620 for the day or 37 and 47 per hour. Tax is paid at the lower rate even if you're on the higher one.
These jobs are not advertised and usually the same people are used. The vote counters get paid a lot more and this is a complete closed shop.

Could we not get some of the young unemployed to do this job and give them 50 euros + what they get on the dole? I'm sure there are plenty of suitably qualified people on the dole.

400,000 sitting on their hoops and persons who have jobs or who are retired getting mad money and the country borrowing 70 million to stay afloat.

It is what shoul be done in this day and age, esp the way things are now. It is disgraceful.

Horses for courses -- workers for work..
An highly pressurised situation where speed, confidence and ability are required would not appear to meet the requirements of those you are attempting to lobby for.
None if any breaks, 6/8 hr shifts and in my time at counts the staff remain the same.
Have you any concept of the relationship between a tally-man and a State employee in a most frenzied situation.

    Scoot off....
An election cannot give a country a firm sense of direction if it has two or more national parties which merely have different names but are as alike in their principles and aims as two peas in the same pod.

There are now quite a few newly unemployed state employees among other workers now on dole, many of whom be used to 'pressurized situations' far better than public servants.

are you saying that you wouldn't be able to find enough people with speed, confidence and ability among the 400,000 unemployed? And you say scoot off!

Who exactly is responsible for appointing those at Polling Stations? Some Gov Dept? Each Local Authority?

What are the requirements for the job? Presumably there are requirements of trustworthiness and good faith?

I gave a preference to a local candidate because I saw on the ballot sheet that he was unemployed, so he could do with the job more than the others.
