Are election posters illegal if they do not have a named political party on them?

...even Independents have Independent emblazoned across their posters.

This is just something I've noticed in Dublin but it may be the same throughout the State as well.

I've noticed that 2 Fianna Fáil candidates do not have the party logo on some of their posters, is this illegal?

The two Fianna Failures are Ronan Callely and Eibhlin Byrne.

No, but it does need to have the candidate's director of elections named on it.
    A poster of some consequence...

These posters deffo do not have that written on the front of it - never thought to check the back but will do so on my way home later this evening.

Could they then be fined for littering?

Its normally in very small writing, given that the name of the Director of Elections doesn't normally influence people re. their voting intentions.

The only nformation required by law on an election poster is the name and address of the Director of Elections and the Printer. The information should be legible, but need only be able to be read up close. Other than that a candidate can put pretty much what she or he wishes on the poster, within the law of course!

If it doesn't have this information it's classed as litter and can be removed, whoever put it up can be fined.

I am practically 100% certain that the name and address of the Director of Elections and the Printers is not on some of either Callely's or Byrne's posters.

I will check on my way abhaile later...

If I am wrong I will delete this thread.

If this info is correct then I can confirm that both Ronan Callely and Eibhlinn Byrne are in flagrant breach of the law.

Mine doesn't have the word Independent written on it, and is a fetching Royal Blue design, which was done incidentally by another P.ie poster and recieved much praise across the electoral area

If we adopted a systems where posters were only permitted on display boards in a number of public places then this would not be an issue.

Like this on in Japan - Election Posters (Tokyo) on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Together with this no flyers or leaflets in the door but a booklet to each voter on the registers with each candidate having equal space. We already get cards addressed to us from them, so why not reduce waste and the unnecessary extra work on an Post.
