Ken Loach Nails Bertie and da Brudder. They're 'Just Cheap'

Loach accuses Ahern of hijacking premiere - The Irish Times - Thu, Jun 04, 2009

Well Ken Loach has summed up the Drumcondra Mafia very well after they gate crashed the premiere of his new movie to present a Dubs jersey to Cantona.

    From the article
"In an interview with Newstalk’s Tom Dunne, Loach later described Mr Ahern as a “rather dodgy right-wing politician”.

Screenwriter Paul Laverty, who wrote Looking for Eric, raised a laugh after the premiere when he told the assembled audience that a line which he had to leave out of the movie was appropriate for Mr Ahern’s behaviour. “The higher the money climbs, the more you can see its arse.”

Bertie didn't even stay to watch the movie. Cheap. Cheap. Cheap.

Typo by the IT hack (quelle surprise!)
Laverty said 'The higher the MONKEY climbs, the more you can see its arse.'
Which makes a lot more sense really, given that money doesn't have an arse.

Maybe it was an intended pun or a journalistic freudian slip.

More likely a poorly transcribed tape.

“Under no circumstances did we try to hijack the film. Bertie is a great fan of Ken Loach, especially of The Wind that Shakes the Barley .”

Turns out he's not such a bad fella.

Wonder has he ever seen Hidden Agenda: Hidden Agenda by Ken Loach on DVD starring Frances McDormand, Brian Cox III, Brad Dourif at Movies Unlimited

Excellent film, exposing the murderous activities of British Forces in Ireland - bit like The Wind that Shakes the Barley 50 years on.
