RTE claim recession is at bottom -even though the news is bad???

Despite the fact that today's ESRI-KBC consumer sentiment index is negative, RTE chose to introduce it with the headline that the recession is bottoming out! Hardly something that can be honestly deduced from the numbers.

They then backed it up by using a quote from the motor industry that their "slow down was itself slowing down". Surely a slower slow down is still a slow down?? You can't slow down more than being stopped

Is this some shameful pro he who pays the piper spin 3 days before an election or a guilty conscience at giving George Lee a job in the first place?

There is a sense that it is bottoming out, that does not mean we are out of the woods.

Cowen did say that its going to be a Marathon not a sprint but it is good to see that at least the very worst has passed but there is still a great distance to go.

Now, where did I put my green jersey? I have to go digging for green shoots of recovery? Oh, here it is, I just pulled it directly out of my ass.

Kinda noticed that too. There was also a nice piece on how the EU is also full of lobbyists. So they are grand so. Great stuff

Yes but to run it with the headline that it was bottoming out is quite misleading!!
The motor industry has completely ground to a halt, the fact that it is still slowing at this stage is hardly reason to think that the recession is over.

As for Cowen, of course he's going to say that on the week of an election and has every right to but RTE is supposed to at least pretend to be independent

I am astounded by the brace neck of RTE! I had great respect for them one time.

But the news is bad and this was putting a positive spin on it. Surely this is against election law for fair and balanced reporting.

This the last chance for Fianna Fáil and their media wing RTÉ to desperately conjure some bullsh!tty good news story to create a swing before the polls, pity for them Friday's unemployment figures is going to leave egg on on their faces and only cause more damage for FF Friday's poll. Idiots.
