    Dublin Euros, where will FG surplus transfer to?

    Given the latest MRBI poll, if Gay Mitchell gets elected where will his surplus go?

    P de Rossa may not need high prefs from FG (but that might be the natural choice for FGers), so should the votes go to FF to keep MLM out, or to MLM to keep FF out?

    It's a bit of a dilemma for me anyway!

    A number of issues to consider;
    1. Will Gay have a surplus on the first count or much of one? If he does the surplus will be distributed as a proportion of all of Gay's number 1 votes. This will favour Labour but will prob break even between Ryan and MLM. Ryan needs to be a good deal ahead of MLM on the first count as she can depend on a strong transfer from Higgins
    2. Far more important than Gay's surplus will be the destination of the "big" losers' transfers, e.g. Mckenna...

    De rossa will not need them-he will have a quota of his own. It's where their surplusses go from there. Which is the lesser evil from FG POV-electing pro euro Eoin or anti euro Mary Lou.

    Maybe Dublin should have a eurosceptic voice.

    As a FG voter I'll be giving my 2nd preference to MLM & I hope all others do the same.
    I'm not a fan of Mary Lou by any stretch of the imagination but if just 1 FF seat has to be lost on the day I hope it's Eoin Ryan's.

    That's exactly what I was thinking. Hence the dilemma. But it appears GM has indicated transfers should go to Labour. I would hazard a guess that FF will get transfers quicker than SF. Hobson's choice really.

    Now if FG were ruthless they would transfer to MLM to take Ryan out. Too nice though

    I have head reports of FG canvassers asking voters to transfer to Mary Lou to keep FF out.

    If you told me a couple of year ago that this could happen, I'd have laughed.

    It's a pity the Green are no longer an independent party. SF are the only viable option after Labour.

    For what it's worth, my 1st will of course go to Gay - my No 2 will go to PdR (despite the fact that he is a useless MEP - merely put out to pasture by Workers Party Lite (aka Laboured) then its on to anyone but the green and Eoin Ryan- we need to kick FF as hard as we can - and if that means MLMCD, or another of the fringe party non-entities so be it - I could not live with myslef if I were to give an FF'er even the slightest amount of support. Roll on the 6th, 7th and 8th - methinks it will be fun to watch the meltdown of FF and the green gimps. Oh happy happy days - lots of em to come.

    I'll be giving my second preference to Eibhlin Byrne. Found her very approachable with regards to pieces about Dublin. When it comes to Europe, FG and FF have identical policies. Sure, so do Labour.
