Election tactics - What parties will learn from the UK GE?

The UK GE will see a significant amount of interesting new/newish tactical efforts such as postcode based targetting of voters, specialist advertising, dog whistle campaign issues and internet campaigns like backingblair.com (as featured on the daily politics show on Monday this week).

What do people think parties here at home will learn from all of this?

Who will try out similar tactics here first?

And who would be best placed to take advantage?
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

I dought if Irish political parties would learn much from the British election campaigns, as most British election are very low key affairs in comparison to Irish ones.

I hope that Irish parties don't pay attention but I fear that they will.

Although the practice of politics in the UK is that bit more informed, honest and policy-based than it is here, the promotion of it is far worse.

Expect to see new lows in soundbites substituting for policy argument, and new extremes in scaremongering, distortion and general negative campaigning.
Perhaps the most annoying gimmick will be viral email campaigns - emails with just enough topical political humour in them that boring people will spread them around the office and their friends.

On the bright side, Gordon Brown really hates Blair and might not do a very good job of hiding it.

...and members of the cabinet may get into fist-fights again. That's always fun.

What do people think of http://www.backingblair.com? The nature of the targetting and so on.

Operation Henman is class. Voting for someone just because they're not a Blair supporter isn't.

There's an interesting blog called The Skakagrall - http://www.skakagrall.com/archives/general_election/ which is covering some interesting aspects of the UK general election.

    Gems include:
tacticalvoter.net http://www.tacticalvoter.net/ to help beat the Tories.
Strategic Voter 2005 http://www.strategicvoter.org.uk/ to vote for Peace.

Interesting to see that labours moving to the centre has forced the Conservatives to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

    Hysterical fear of Crime

    Hysterical fear of travelers

Hysterical fear of immigrants (the blacks get mercs vote)

The Lib-Dems "were the real opposition" was a good slogan why do they always fail to get to a position where they could actually get into govt?

The Conservatives had never been weaker this was their big chance.

Sean Connery has recorded a phone message for the the Scottish National party. It goes 'This is Sean Connery, this is not a joke but the Labour party is. Vote of the Snp and give a voice to Scotland'

Maybe if that works will see celebrity endorsments here.
FF The guy Bertie's daughter is married to from WestLife
    PD Micheal O Leary

They've taken this idea from U.S. where Bill Clinton's recorded message went down very well during the Presidential campagn.
