    The October 2009 General Election

The October 2009 General Election The probability of an October General Election grows towards 100% as each day passes.

There is no way the country can endure more of this Government and no way that Fianna Fail could get another budget through.

The people will not tolerate more hardship, miserly sacrifice, to see the savings thrown down the drain by this hapless incompetent Government

The most likely outcome is either a Fianna Fáil / Green /Independents /Labour Government or a coalition of Fine Gael of some 75 seats with Sinn Fein being the Junior partner with some thing in the range of 10 to 15 seats.Labour has yet to state that they will not support another Fianna Fáil Government.

The electorate will have a clear choice. Labour can fro lick with Fianna Fáil to their hearts content, as they have done in the past.

A vote for Fine Gael is your only guarantee your vote will not end up enabling another disastrous Fianna Fáil rainbow coalition Government

Fine Gael were essentially the original Sinn Fein founded by Arthur Griffith, all but re badged a few times since.

Sinn Fein would do what is necessary to put Country first. Fine Gael must look very closely at this option in the National Interest

Labour have been very good at opportunist populist criticism of Fianna Fáil but very short on real policies that would actually work.

the shinners will never really get 10-15 seats.... (Where would they be??)

they dont have enough decent candidates to do it.... in the same way i dont think the greens could get more than 5 or 6 TDs elected....

Fianna Fail will walk away from Government in October. SF will get support from the left wing support base when the option to govern is there.

Minus Bertie and Tony, Dublin Central would seem ripe to have two seats 'flip' parties: one of the beneficiaries would absolutely be SF.

Shinners could easily get to 10. Get Crowe back in Dublin, one in DC, one in each of the donegals, one in sligo-north leitrem, and one in Meath West. 10 on a good day.

They only have to be ahead of the FF candidates to pick up their transfers.

John, that is an interesting post. I would be surprized if FF/PD's and hanger on's stay in till the next budget, the next budget is going to have to be very severe, whoever is in charge, is it not better that it be on FF/PD's head, than those who did not make the mess. I would be concerned that FF/PD's would be back again in a few years, and we would have the same Fianna Fail heads and Harney screwing the country again. If SF become more like they are in the North, then people will feel comfortable supporting them, but as for now there are too many in the party, that are too far left, and idealogically bound, rather than looking at the facts on the ground. I have no doubt about their integrity and commitment.
