    Immigrant Candidates for Local Elections

Article in Irish Examiner on immigrant candidates campaigning and giving numbers being put forward by the parties.

    | Irish Examiner

Some interesting reasons given why immigrants may not vote in big numbers.

Now I know that the right to vote in local elections is based on residency here for a certain period of time but is it time to change this? It seems ridiculous that asylum seekers many of whom are eventually rejected are entitled to vote in our elections. What have they done to earn a right to vote?

They may get citizenship if they vote their fellow Nigerian in. He is promising his fellow immigrants "passports within six months" if they vote for him. Who does this Nigerian think he is?

"The main obstacle is that people have to go the Garda station. And you know yourself, there is a big gap between immigrants and the Garda and obviously there are a lot of issues that make immigrants not want to go to the Garda," he said.
    I'll bet there are.

There is a Nigerian town councillor in portlaoise runningt again.Judging from the tallies last time and identifying the boxes he got a mostly middle class vote. Do gooders not worried as they did'nt think they would need representation anyway.

Well they will now .He has turned out to be the biggest waster portlaoise has ever elected and is only concered about lining his own pocket.
And his main canvasser in portlaoise last time has since been convicted for 15 years for raping 2 children.I posted sources for all this on another thread.

Interesting that SF have only Irish candidates running for them. The only party. And they are called the mass immigration party.I dont think so.

Asylum-seekers should not be entitled to vote unless they succeed in their applications. Otherwise, we are just rewarding abuse of the asylum-system and illegal-immigration. In any case, expect the liberal-media to make a fuss of those asylum-seekers that get in.

Jady88, don't bore us to death attacking the poster with whom you disagree. Just deal with the argument, that is if you can. What should asylum seekers have the right to vote, just because they have been here for a short period of time ? Just what exactly have they contributed to the country to earn the right to vote?

That story deserves its own thread. I'll put it up.
