Fine Gael on General election footing.

Newstalk have just reported that Kenny has said that they are ready for a general election. Kenny said that if the government get a message from the people in June that its time for a general election. Last night on the Week in Politics Brian Hayes said that there will be a no-confidence motion put to the Dail if there is an election meltdown.

The upcoming elections are now becoming a referendum on the FF/Green government.

A Motion of no confidence would be a waste of Dail time.

Even if we loose these by elections we will still have a 5 seat majority.
'A defeatist attitude now would surely lead to defeat, it primarly a question of whether we have confidence in ourselves and the dilligence and determination of our people,We can't opt out of the future.' Sean Lemass (1965)

There is no way that there will be a General Election in June or July. The Dail isn't even in session so it'll be late Autumn at least before anything could happen on that front.

Enda Kenny has been saying he's ready for a general election for the last year.

I don't recall him saying that. He was asked it but answered a different question.

FG aren't the only ones on an election footing.

The Greens are beginning to move away from FF - Gormley was on Radio 1 yesterday talking about bottom lines.

Michael Lowry is threatening to withdraw support.

John McGuinness criticises his leaders with abandon and

Dermot Ahern dusts off the blasphamy laws to p1ss off the Greens and appeal to the conservative voter.

It's a sinking ship and each man for himself.

I have seen a major shift away from FF by the greens. Even on this site their members don't seem to cosy with the relationship.

Why does the Dáil have to be in session for there to be an election? Are you saying that there can't be elections at any time during the vast swathes of the year that it is not in session?
