Frank Dunlop sentenced on Monday 18th- a timely reminder to wavering voters?

Frank Dunlop pleaded guilty to five sample counts of corruption in January, and is due to be sentenced next Monday (18th May).

Whatever sentence the man receives, no doubt it will serve as a reminder to voters.

While Cowen and FF are hopelessly trying to deflect charges of incompetence from all sides, will this be a neatly timed revival of another, now less often voiced accusation? That of the Corruption endemic within all levels of that party?

Owen O'Callaghan who supplied the monies for Dunlop's corruptive practises should be in the dock with him.

You'd hope so, but it'll be written off as 'the past', and the suckers will fall for it.

My fear is that Dunlop is being 'sterilised' against other prosecutions in relation to his corruption. My problem is that he is being treated with leniently on the assumption that he had some kind of conversion to truth-telling in April 2000 when in fact he has been lying through his teeth up until his very last day of evidence. I just hope he hasn't pulled a fast one.

There are eight people named on that charge sheet. 6 of whom were members of my party. If they are found guilty themselves of having taken bribes, they are a disgrace and deserve whatever comes to them. Former FG senator Liam Cosgrave and the late FG councillor Tom Hand are also named. So don't go pretending that FF is the only party with a shady record.

I know what you mean, but the main upshot is that there will be a few days of headlines with "Corruption", "sleaze" and "Fianna Fail" prominent, (not to mention the weekend reviews that follow) all in the fortnight running up to 3 significant elections.

That has to mean some knock-on effect.

In this case alone 75% are corrupt FF'rs, problem is this in no way reflects say council representation but indicates most FF'rs are on the take.

It also does not indicate the real monies in this overall case which went to much more high profile FF politicians and does not have any high profile politicians from other parties.

I fear you are correct, deep down somewhere a deal has been worked out for this toerag but I do not feel Mahon will hold back in his Report, but it smacks of piecemeal justice.

    .
How the F&*K does it signify that?
    75 TDs.
    23 Senators
    400 Cllrs
    72,000 members.
    851,000 voters.

And you say most of them are on the take? Get a grip.

I suspect that Alex White will be reminding and highlighting that the grandson of the founder of George Lee's new party is one of those who was "on the take" and that Fine Gael had a Hand in the grubby till of corruption.

Yes, though the difference is that we expel those found guilty of corruption where as your party looks the other way (Ray Burke) or embraces them (Lowry).

But that was an impressive effort to spread the muck!
