He better do it quick or somebody in FG or Lab will be doing it.
I heard different that it was going to be after the lisbon election and announced in the budget.
It will not happen then. This gov will fall within weeks
This will not be good for the least well off in society, it can only deter less well off people from taking up higher education.

Nonsense, it was a joke before the current system, the only ones paying were PAYE. I saw millionaires on full grants and no fees and others struggling.
I would pay for it all from tax and tax the richer harder.
The current system could be more progressive for getting lower starters into professions and I doubt he will return us to what we had before.
The move by labour was the best thing they ever did, particularly for lower and middle income PAYE.
I would be against this move. I think many people are put of third level education because of the existing expense. People forget that you have to be supported or support yourself for a minimum of three years. That doesn't come cheap. Make it even more expensive and there are people who will decide to go straight into employment rather than wait some years and then have large loans to pay of while others have been partying or saving and are in a better financial position.
In the long run it is true that those who go to college are on average better off financially but how many 18 year olds think long term? I know that it took many years for me to recover financially from my five years at uni and I knew others who were in a much better position when it came to purchasing a first home because unlike me they had had time to save.
Bugger it all anyway - I always knew that the government would wait until it was my turn to send a kid to colege before reintroducing fees. Can't catch a break!![]()
