I was interested to see the current Libertas 'poll type' advertisement running on Politics.ie and like most mugs I was drawn into participate.
I entered in Ireland and 1 seat won (based on perhaps a Libertas win for Ganley for arguments sake) And what I got was this, which on he face of it seems ok,
But shocking as the first figure seems in essence (to perhaps all but political junkies like ourselves on Politics.ie) the second figure and the assertion are completely inaccurate and misleading.
Libertas claim that 'with a vote for Libertas you can win 785 seats' -which would in fact be the whole European Parliament. If that were true Libertas would have to run a candidate in every consituency and in the case of Ireland, considering our PR system, they would have to run the maximum number of candidates (the acutal number of seats) i.e. 12.
As we all know, Libertas are only fielding 3 candidates in Ireland including Mr. Ganley.
So there is no possible way for Libertas to win 785 seats and therefore this advertisment is misleading and inaccurate. And dare I say, reflective of the organisation in general.
