Sinn Fein / IRA to take 16 seats?

Hi all.....interesting prediction by Minister Mc Dowell..........
is it a real prospect? is it a threat to our way of life / Democracy?...where will they take the seats? who will loose out?

I presume if true, FF can say goodbye to Martin Brady, Jim Mc Daid, Pat Carey, Demot Fitzpatricks seat.... in addition to Mulcahy, Oconnor, Dublin North......thats 6 in dublin alone...plus maybe one in south and one in Dun laoghaire, one in Wicklow......what do ye all think?????...only 12 month campaigning left!

I can't see SF getting a seat in Dun Laoghaire, tbh.

I doubt he actually believes that they would win 16 seats but is simply trying to explain the possible outcome of people voting SF without much consideration for the consequences.

Wait - does this mean he's admitting defeat in his non stop campaign of slurs, lies and total abuse of his position?

So in predicting such a substantial increase in support for the party he's spent so much of his time in office trying to run down and discredit isn't admitting defeat? Is he claiming victory then?!

All McDowell did was simple mathematics. He put forward a possible 10% of seats (ie. 16 or so) in the event of 10% of the first preferences for SF.

Of course he and we know this to be quite fanciful. 10% of the vote would not translate into anything near 10% of the seats for SF, for the well-known reason that they get few transfers.

At this stage I'd assume maybe five to seven for SF next time, based upon possible gains in Dublin Central and Dub NW, with the possibility of a loss in Dublin South Central.
