    Lech Walesa to address Libertas Convention

    Nobel peace prize winner and champion of Polish freedom Lech Walesawill address the Libertas Convention

    Lech Walesa was President of Poland from 1990 to 1995, and was thefirst leader of Solidarity, Poland's first independent trade union
    If we were all born equal we would all be white, middle-class, middle-aged men!

    In fairness this is a big coup for Libertas.
    He is seen as a national hero in many sectors of Poland.

    hes huge in Poland and played a huge part in their history. It shall certainly be interesting to see what he says

    Walesa got just 1% of the vote on his last electoral outing (the 2000 Presidential Election). Saying he's still "huge" there is a bit of a stretch

    He's something of the elder statesman now though. I suspect it's the mix of right-of-centre politics and Catholicism that appeals to him.

    hes played a significant part in the history of the nation and as someone who has lived in Poland I can testify that he is extremly popular

    Isn't it a tad ironic that one of the trade union movement's international heroes is addressing the founding congress of an organisation that supports strike-breaking?

    Why did he do so poorly in the 2000 presidential election then?

    (Also, Walesa resigned from "Solidarity" after they supported the PiS/Kaczynski party. Again - seems odd that he is now at the founding congress of their fellow travellers......)
