Mr Walesa came [to the Libertas rally] one day after his public appearance at the Warsaw congress of Libertas' political rival, the pro-treaty, pro-integration, European People's Party.
Interesting.

Cause that is how propostorous your statements are.

Try to get out of your internet Hollywood world.

People should really talk to a few Poles that live here and what they think Lech did for Poland. Nobel prizes are not given out for free you know.

smitchy2 that is a load of hogwash and you know it. Fianna Fail has never "courted" the catholic church any more than Christian Democrat Fine Gael, or any other right-of-centre parties in catholic Europe throughout its history. In fact De Valera's constitution was actually considered progressive for its day- BnaH offers ALL religious denominations freedom of worship. We are after all a Republic.
Next time try and give a productive argument, instead of just throwing ridicolous and false allegations against Fianna Fail

Actually I wouldn't really get carried away with some of these awards. After all, didn't the bold Henry Kissinger receive the nobel Peace prize in the early '70s and he had some track record when it came to human rights.Evidently he has to take great precautions visiting some European countries in case he finds himself in the same awkward position as his old pal General Pinochet. And didn't Menachem Begin of Israel also receive it much the same time?He was another champion of human dignity in his part of the world

You are probably correct up to the late '60s but FF and a small handful of FG TDs repeatedly disgraced themselves from then on whenever contraception, divorce or abortion were mentioned and fell over themselves trying to suck up to the church.....most of the FF leadership did so for political gain and the odd FG did so for fundamentalist reasons.
Actually in the '80s, whenever the Bishops spoke,it was said that FG used to fall down on it's knees but FF used to fall flat on it's face.

More on the protest against Lech Walesa at the Libertas rally. It seems LPR supporters (Libertas's target market in Poland) don't like Lech:

Protest
Almost as soon as the founder of the Solidarity movement began to speak, noisy chants of protest broke out in the hall, and several people stalked out of the room. Outside, Eve Skowronska from Warsaw was hopping mad.

"We don't believe in him anymore. We have some information on him from the past," she said darkly -- "we" being the right-wing party, the League of Polish Families.

But that's the trouble when you bring together so many people from different parts of Europe, and some from the outer fringes of political ideologies, such as Italian candidate Teodoro Buontempo and French charmer Philippe de Villiers, whose right-wing stances make Margaret Thatcher seem like a tofu-eating hippy in comparison.
Teodoro Buontempo was a former representative for the 'post-fascist' Alleanza Nazionale and was most recently an unsuccessful (very unsuccessful) candidate for President of the Abruzzo Region, gaining only 1.9% of votes in last December's election:

E' candidato come Presidente della Regione Abruzzo per le elezioni regionali del 14 e 15 dicembre 2008. Alle elezioni regionali, raccoglie l'1,90% dei voti, pari a 11.514 dei consensi, alle spalle di Rodolfo De Laurentiis (Udc), Carlo Costantini (centro - sinistra) e l'eletto Gianni Chiodi del Pdl.
Funny but disturbing bit about the reaction to Miguel Duran:

And although the Libertas platform is what they like to dub 'Euro-optimistic' while being simultaneously anti-Lisbon, not everyone is singing off the same Euro hymn-sheet.

Among the speakers at the convention yesterday morning was Spain's lead candidate Miguel Duran, who is pro-European. He is blind, and for years successfully headed up a powerful organisation representing the blind and disabled.

And Senor Duran won one of the biggest cheers of day during his address, when he announced: "I want to find with Declan a new Europe, a white Europe, not a black Europe."

This went down a storm with a large section of the crowd.

But alas for the enthusiasts, his remark wasn't as black and white at it seemed.

"Blind persons know very well what is the difference between black and white because we always live inside the darkness. So I don't want the next Europe to be dark Europe," he explained, to more muted applause.
