There is something very distasteful about Libertas taking financial advantage of a European hero to shill for them when he doesn't even support them.

Yes. I got an email from Libertas before the convention that said they would pay for transport and accommodation for the first 25 people to respond to that email. I was actually thinking of getting together a few friends and applying, a free trip to Rome courtesy of Ganley sort of appealed to me!
If they were paying transport and accommodation for 25 attendees in a country where they have just 3 candidates, its an indicator of how many overall attendees they shipped in, considering they are running 200 candidates in all.
Then after the conference I got an email saying how some attendees have 'traveled thousands of miles' just to be there.
Dear, oh dear. Can Libertas even do the smallest things in an open and transparent manner?
Here's a comment from an Austrian who was at the Libertas rally:
Polish media reporting that Lech Wałęsa might have been paid over €50,000 for his speech at the Libertas rally. That's some honorarium! As an Austrian participant at the Rome Libertas Convention on May 1st I’d like to make the following statement.Firstly: A couple of weeks ago I announced to
Libertas to be willing to run for Austria at the EU-elections.I asked for advice and support. All I received was that somebody would contact me. He never did.
Secondly: When I arrived at the Parco della musica there were no Austrian flags
available.Thirdly:When the resolution was signed by a German pretending to be Austrian - with me the only Austrian watching- I was flabberghasted. Fourthly: Apart from the deficits that I sadly had to experience I still believe that Libertas can offer new hope for a democratic EU. And I’m willing to support the idea.Peter Feldhofer, Gxxxxxstr.XX,A-8010 Austria e-mai:Peter.feldhofer@xxxxx.at
Wałęsa: 50 thousand euro from Libertas?
Muszę przecież utrzymać dom i znośnie żyć - powiedział Wałęsa.
Lech Wałęsa, who on Friday returned from participation in the congress of the eurosceptic party, Libertas, where his speech got the money - as we read in "Rzeczpospolita". Asked by a journalist whether this could be about 50 thousand euros, answered: I am paid so low? You need to work for years to get what I earn for a lecture.
In Poland, earning about 3 thousand zlotys, it is not enough for me. We have to keep house and to live decently - said Wałęsa.
