General Election on June 5th? What's the likelihood?

Quite unlikely right now, I know, but is it possible, even as an outside chance?

There are Rumours (reported on here, anyway) that Lowry is about to withdraw support, other independents and backbenchers may be wobbling.

I think early to mid-May is the latest that the dail could be disolved and an election called.

Could "events" in the next few weeks precipitate a snap election, creating a "super friday" on June 5th?

I wouldn't hold my breath tbh. Would be excellent if it did happen but FF exist for one thing and one thing only. Power. They'll hang onto it for dear life until they are dragged away from it kicking and screaming.

I know what you mean, but is it guaranteed Cowen could even survive a confidence motion, for example?

FF Backbenchers would be crazy to bring down there own government.

I dont think it would happen, If there is one before 2011/12 i would be surprised

I think the current numbers are FF-76 GP-5 PDs-2 JHR-1= 84 votes so it would take Jackie and one of the former PDs to withdraw support for the gov to loose its majority.

    In your dreams.

I really don't think this govt is going to fall anytime soon. This country is too complacent, and all those spineless backbenchers know which side their bread is buttered on, they won't risk having to be re-elected.

I think he would survive a confidence motion, but it would be by a very very small margin and would lead to in-fighting & factions within FF again.

Can FF really count on having 76 votes ? Will Mary Wallace be in the dail again?
