Here's another section of the German law on elections to the European Parliament. It applies to parties who want to field a list of candidates at Land (state) level. The highlighted sections might be problematic for Libertas Partei Deutschland:

    Section 11
Submission of nominations, declaration on the connection of lists for individual Länder
    (1) Lists for one Land must be submitted in writing to the Land Electoral Supervisor concerned by 1800 hours on the sixty-sixth day before the election at the latest. Common lists for all Länder must be submitted in writing to the Federal Electoral Supervisor by 1800 hours on the sixty-eighth day before the election at the latest.
    (2) The following must be submitted to the Electoral Supervisor with the nomination:
    ....
    3. in cases covered by Section 9(5) [i.e. of parties like Libertas Partei Deutschland that haven't had elected representatives within the past five years], the requisite valid signatures with proof of eligibility to vote of the signatories,
    4. the written constitution, the programme, the names and addresses of board members (Section 9(4)) and proof that the members of the board have been democratically elected where the party or other political association has not been represented without interruption by at least five members on the basis of its own nomination in the European Parliament, the German Federal Parliament or a Land parliament since elections were last held for them.

It should be easy to get 4000 signatures in a country with 82 million. All you need is to find 4000 homeless people (or students) and give them cigarettes and beer for each signature. One case of drinkable beer = 6 euro. Theres even 4000 far right Nazis who wouldnt care what they signed. With my knowledge of Germany I could fly over and get the signatures easily. I know at least 500 german students who would do anything for beer. If Libertas cant' get those signatures it shows a lack of imagination

they should have that law here , that would put a dint in private parties and "millionaires" attempts to subvert political life through the application of funds.

The Germans who of course have such laws......they have been sucker punched by ambitious nasty men in the 1930s and obviously would not wish it to happen again.

The most sinister aspect of Libertas' attempts to register in various countries has been their attitude to the local requirements in each case. Here for example, the references to "the bureaucracy"....as if the regulations and requirements themselves were to blame.

They seem to have a contemptuous view of the laws of the countries they are dealing in, and openly state that the law of the land is some kind of inconvenience to them.

How's that for openness, transparency and accountability?

They seem to want to play everything by their own rules. The only party I can think of that has shown such an attitude is Sinn Fein - but even they have abandoned this kind of stance

Good point OMM. They saw him coming.

It is amazing how slack the EU process for establishing fund-worthiness is. Any old signatures from existing MEPs would do, with no evidence of a real functioning party. Libertas failed even that test.

According to a Libertas UK supporter, Libertas are claiming they did submit the 4,000 signatures on time:

I have asked internally about this, and they seem confident that they will be running.
They categorically state that they did submit the 4000 signatures in time. I am trying to find out more.
