Noel Whelan - govt won't survive emergency budget?

Noel Whelan is on RTE now talking about how the "minority government" (???) may not survive the flak from the April 7 budget.

He already made a freudian slip referring to the "general election on June 5th", before hastily correcting himself.

Apparently finding 4.5bn in cuts is too difficult for FF, it would seem.

It does seem like that - seems to think it very possible that they won't have a majority to vote through the budget. But not blaiming the Greens. Interesting.

Indeed - Noel Wheelan is a semi-independent FF spin agent

His aim is always towards some outcome rather than an honest assessment

If he actually had a government position then he'd have skin in the game & we should listen to him

For now we should ignore him entirely

HIs basic premise seems to be summed as "FF don't have the Balls to do what's needed," and wondering if any of the other parties do.

He's also casting doubts on Cowens future.

I wonder if ( as some posters have already pointed out) Whelan is kite-flying for a Fianna Fail exit strategy in the form of a GE. Some in FF may have seen the writing on the wall in terms of whats coming over the next few months with tax hikes, social welfare cuts and so on.
Getting out now would enable them to rebuild in opposition while a Fine Gael led government was left to administer the tough medicine and take the brunt of public outcry.

they know what they are planning on cutting and I think they want out. Given what is required for the next 3 years, there is every chance that ff will be back in less than 3 years
