    Unless Labour are involved.

    Do you remember the 1980s?

In 1987 Fianna Fail and Fine Gael had to come together to prevent Labour doing any more damage to the economy (up until then Fianna Fail had been matching Labour on short-term economy wrecking).

Fine Gael need to stop having to fight on two fronts if they want to become a Party of Government.

Actually I was going to add that rider, and yes I do remember the 1980's, rather better than I would like. I think even Labour and their trade union windbag friends would probably have to do their duty if the alternative was losing what is left of our self-determination. However the prospect of them in power does make me pause when I wish for a change of govt. Anyway FG can't get a majority on their own.

While I will most probably vote Joan Burton No 1 next time outthe prospect of Labour having a veto over what needs to be done is a matter of some worry to me.

I honestly think the Party is just too ideologue heavy to be able to make the hardball decisions that will have to be made over the next few years...

Was anyone listening to that guy Dan Someoneorother from the Economist Think Tank in London on the Radio this morning over we we having been downgraded once again?

Scary stuff - he seems to think there is a very good chance we will Default.

Have Labour the bottle to do the necessary if they are in power in a few months time?

Yes - but they will want to protect the vulnerable. Unfortunately, the vulnerable, in Labour's thinking is everyone who depends on state handouts (other than farmers and business) and everyone employed directly by the state.

Frankly if it takes two or three or four elections this year to purge FF from the system thats worth it. Labour need to come out and say under no circumstances whatsoever, be it economic collapse or a plague of space goats, will they prop up FF. Let em swing...

Yeah, but they won't, and there must be doubts also about their ability to slaughter their own public sector sacred cows.

Has Catalpa the bottle to do the necessary and vote FG in a few months time?

PS - I think Joan Burton would be an excellent Minister for Enerprise and Employment, a position that has only been filled by the best and and the brightest until Mary from DunLowBrow was nominated by the Clowen from Clara.

There's not a snowballs that we will default.

Don't mind the scaremongerers. We might have to pay a percent or two over the odds in the short-term - as a result of ongoing attacks by elements in London - but this will prove to be minor in the medium term.

Labour won't be on Government this side of 2012, and in the unlikely event of an election this year, they will only be in Government for at most 6 months - the first Richard Bruton Budget will have them screaming blue murder. Courage, vision and sacrifice for the greater good don't exist in the slimeball, whatever you are having yourself, FF-Lite mindset of the Labour Party.

It isn't possible to "purge FF from the system" - unfortunately. Trying to do so is a wasted effort, and takes time and energy from more productive tasks.

Much better to put resources into purging Labour from the system so that Fine Gael only have to fight a war on one front. When your biggest ally is also your biggest liability you are never going to get anywhere.

Fine Gael need to clean house.
