SF and the Euro seat in Dublin

The question on a lot of people’s minds at present is “will Mary Lou run for the vacant Dail seat in DC? It would have been a tough decision both for SF and Mary Lou.
Would having ML in the Dail be more beneficial for the development of SF as a formidable political entity?

In the light of recent events in the North I think that the decision has been made for both Mary Lou and SF.

The murder of 3 men by scum has placed the peacemaker Gerry Adams in a very difficult position and his interview yesterday morning on rte radio has done damage to SF and to ML chances of the Euro seat .

The impression given by Gerry’s refusal to condemn the killings and his statement regarding the British troops in N.Ireland is that SF has moved on in body but not in mind.

People out there will not realise Adams cannot condone or condemn, he has a hard-line group within the former IRA and SF whom through great skill brought into the peace process and he must keep them there.Adams has been placed in a very difficult position and he should be supported and political opponents should not use this as an opportunity to try damage him but they will.

A lot of Middle class Dublin will not vote for SF in the European Elections she would need thir vote to take her over the line if she was to overtake FF for the third seat, she must go for the Dail . The constituency does have a soci economic mix but if the rift with Nicky Keogh could be healed SF should and could take the seat.

Sean Crowe could be a possible Euro Candidate for SF .

Exactly E. They cannot make the clean break, so they should be broken.

When members of Sinn Féin start getting murdered will that be enough of a break for you and your ilk. Sinn Féin is in a difficult position regarding keeping more hardline supporters committed to the peace process however your attempts to say that we are not committed fully to the peace process is total rubbish. Which part of "totally peaceful means" do you not understand?

I think events in NI could have done serious damage in SF in this country. Their lukewarm response to the cold blooded murders will make people wonder how far people like Adams really can come.

It once again demonstrates the problems that SF are going to have to appeal to the electorate in both countries. They need to play it "softly softly" for their support base in N.I,, but here anything less than complete rejection of murder will not play.

eurocitizen what part of "this is wrong, this is unjustifiable" do you not understand. Gerry Adams needs to make sure that he does not alienate some republicans who are undecided yet still broadly committed to peace process. It is better that he tries to keep these people on board. Otherwise where will they move to if he succeeds in forcing them to make a choice.
