Mini budget and FF Indo cllrs

I was just thinking about this last night when I heard of the plans for the mini budget. It seems pretty certain that whatever the mini budget brings, it'll bring huge cuts in expenditure and rises in taxation, and will mean the death knell to many a FF local election candidates chances in June.

However, will it also give some of their cute hoor candidates a chance to resign from FF election tickets, and stand as Independents "because they simply could not agree with the pain brought about by the budget, and want to stand with "de peeple""

Then, if elected, just carry on supporting their former colleagues as if they are in FF, and when things turn around, re-join the party ?

Am I giving some too much credit for cuteness ?

Pretty accurate analysis.
Protect the underlying franchise through a bit of debranding.
The rocks remain in the genepool though.
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

I would agree that is a very likely scenario

Here's another scenario.
FG and Labour have been briefed as to how bad the situation is.
But they play politics (by calling for greater cuts in general and oppose specific ones) rather than give constructive input with submissiosn with officals form DoF help.
A few windy FF TDs go independent.
The Government falls as the mini-budget is defeated.
Election take a month.
FF is obliterated.
Government talks take another month.
FG and Labour form a government.
It's June: how is the deficit now?

Speaking of Christmas, remember when the government did nothing for most of December and then kicked to touch with social partnership and then implemented the plan anyway when the unions balked. If you are using the "we haven't got a moment to lose" argument, I don't think you have a leg to stand on

It's pretty much as bad as it would have been.

But now it's being tackled by politicians who are less incompetent, dishonest and comprimised.

We’ve had threads like this before, but they’ve focused on TDs. This one looks at local councilors and if every Category 5 hurricane has a silver lining, then for Fianna Fáil it must be the fact that the locals are not a few months later in time. If that was the case, there’d be a lot more scope for defections from the party ticket. As it is, local candidates don’t have much time to box-off all the necessary evils that come with jumping ship, starting with working out what supporters will still work with you.

So over to the FF parliamentary backbenchers. Can they keep their nerve? I really don’t think so. Their number one priority is re-election. This government will fall, and instead of hanging on it should allow for the big debate an election brings (imperfect and noisy as it is) and allow a new government with a relevant mandate to take office.
