Fair point but thats her call...

What about someone who thinks D&A is hunky dory having to sign Bills limiting or curtailing such practices?

    That argument cuts both ways.

BTW if we abolish the Office of President that would fundamentally alter the basis of the Constitution

    - perhaps to such a degree that a completely new one would be necessary.

This office has no more maening the the queen in england. It is a burden on the tax payer, soon to be burden more too.
Time for the Irish Goverment to do the honorable thing and go. If thay have any honour left.

The reason it has no meaning is because the office has been allowed to deteriorate.

A proper leader would make full use of the office.

Since we have to chance our outlook on the free market etc maybe it about time we look at other things too.

Oh it most certainly has meaning - as does the position of Monarch in England.

But the President of Ireland is Constitutionally a more important and powerful role as Head of State here than over there.

The Queen is very very limited politically speaking but the Monarchy is a lynchpin of the 'British Constitution' nonetheless.

My money would be on Crowley vs Bruton.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

Bruton? Really? He could be in Government at the time though...
Every one sees what you appear to be, few really know what you are, and those few dare not oppose themselves to the opinion of the many, who have the majesty of the state to defend them.

I think Dana will be our next President. She is already winning the hearts of future voters on Ireland's Talent show.
