Irish Times article on the use of the web by Irish politicians

All a twitter in search of votes - The Irish Times - Sat, Feb 28, 2009

I just read this. To be honest I thought it was quite a dull article. The author quotes three different politicians saying pretty much the same thing; "websites and blogs are useful but they are no replacement for door to door canvassing"... not exactly the revelation of the century!

It also takes at face value what the politicians and parties say about their own web strategy with out investigating or analysing the validity of these claims. For an article titled "all a twitter..." I find it odd that the article doesn't seem to refer to any Irish politician actually using twitter.

The most bizarre piece of the article must be this claim from MEP Kathy Sinnott

Sinnott says because she doesn’t have money for television adverts, the internet is a really cheap way to get her message out there.
It would seem that neither Kathy Sinnott, nor the writer, nor any of the various editors or sub-editors who read the article before it went to print realise that there is a ban on broadcasting political adverts in Ireland. Surely one of these people must have noticed at some point in their lives that there are no television adverts for Irish politicians
