The only way they can salvage their positions is head down and soldier on and, if (and leaving aside one's view of how likely it is) they can get the economy out the other end of this mess then they will at least have the "we got us through the recession" argument.

Whilst many may well scream that they have lost the support of the people - we all know that constitutionally and legally they have a mandate until then.

I think a lot of public sector vote has drifted to Labour. FG have managed to tone down their Anti-Public sector perception, but they still have some convincing to do judging by what I hear from Teachers.

Do they ever ask the question: Are you likely to vote?

    or

    Fluke poll means nothing.

Take which ever explanation you like. Personally I'm going for a little of column A and a little from column B.
Of course the poll means nothing. After all, the people were polled, not FF's close knit friends. And what do the silly public of Ireland know ey?

No, just historically. My guess is that they may have difficulty in East as well with the Commuter belt population taking the biggest brunt of the recession.

    Mixed bag for FG.

Which shows how things have become that 32%, largest party and ten ahead of FF who are third is 'mixed'.

Labour got FF's public sector vote, en masse.

Fine Gael is not in big trouble. It is consistently ahead and the trend is still in the 30%s for FG. This would lead to a very big increase in seats - that is not the sign of a party in trouble.

When it comes to the real election and the making of real choices FG will continue to assert its lead.

The only problem with this result is that it shows just how stupid the Irish people are.

Fianna Fail and Fine Gael are telling people that we need to take decisive action to protect our critical infrastructure, and both lose out.

Labour jumps up and down, goes into overdrive on the Blame Game, and tickles the tummies of all and sundry with meaningless gibberish, and the people reward them for it.

    Yes, they do.

The majority cannot therefore be the elite.

FG have gone into election mode.
After all why should labour be the only ones to get an easy ride.
Election will be about competence not policies.

Sure the only poll is an election day poll... We'll see what that brings..

What this really is, is heartening news for every FG & Labour canvasser going out Door to Door over the coming months.
