What I mean is that you could have say a TD elected for Longford North West and another elected from Munster East.

Maybe leaving the TDs alone and reforming the Seanad might be a better idea?

One way or other the present system is defunct and badly overdue an overhaul.

I find it very difficult to understand your point. We already elect deputies from different regional constituencies. Are you trying to say we should have single seat constituencies?

Why don't we just abolish the elected part of our state and replace it with a polling company which tells the civil service what to do. Scientific democracy.
Liquidate labour, liquidate stocks, liquidate the farmers, liquidate real estate.

We urgently need an active president as we have a senate that doesnt do anything and a weak parliament that cannot effectively hold the government to account. Only the requirement for referendums on constitutional change acts as a brake on the government.

Our system would never(probably) produce a Barack Obama though still not tried and tested but in some ways a major step forward(in one step)for America even if only symbolically.

Would our system produce a George W.
I would like to think not but it is a matter for opinion.
