Anyone heard who got the nominations in Dublin South and Kildare North ?
In Dublin South Olivia Mitchell, Alan Shatter and Jim O’leary were all selected without a vote because FG decided to run three candidates in Dublin South.
In Kildare North Bernard Durkan and Darren Scully were selected also without a vote because Katie Ridge and Tom Neville withdrew their names on the night.
"Give us the future, we've had enough of YOUR past, Give us back our country, to live in, to grow in and to love..."
I was at the Kildare North convention and I have to say that all of the nominees were full of enthusiasm for the upcoming campaign. Fairplay to Councillors Ridge and Neville for standing aside, they both have bright futures in the party, but the Durkan\Scully ticket is the strongest in geopraphical and momentum terms. Katie Ridge did say she's go again next time - maybe she's hoping this is Bernard's last run. She'd make an excellent candidate and deputy.
Glad to see Alan Shatter got the nod too. Is there any feeling for the DS three candidate strategy - are we in with a shot of two seats?

At Cork North West declaration convention last night Cllr Pat Buckley stepped aside in an inspirational act of selflessness!! A great gesture to put the party before his own ambition.

"Elite - a small superior group; esp one that has a power out of proportion to its size." (Oxford English Dictionary)
The majority cannot therefore be the elite.
Is Shatter the first of the 2002 fallen to go forward for convention? The only other one I can see stepping up is Charlie Flanagan. Alan Dukes won't be seeking a slot and from what I hear, neither will Nora Owen.

I'd assume some of the Munster 'fallen', including the likes of Michael Creed, Michael Finucane, Paul Bradford, Deirdre Clune, and Cork SW 'Young Gun' PJ Sheehan will be looking to win back their seats.Originally Posted by aodh_rua
All I can say to this is I'm shocked, I know he is no shrinking violet but I hope he wasn't bullied out of it. I wonder is it really the best thing for the party?Originally Posted by barthez

Durkan-Scully is the best ticket to maximise the Fine Gael vote and really put us in contention for 2 here
