    ha ha ha.

no, he shouldnt. but he'd make a better minister for finance than the muppet we have now.

personally i hope he and george lees predictions being validated just shuts the scam artists up who were talking up a dead donkey.

moral of the story is "listen to people who know what theyre talking about and NOT selling you anything!"

    oh on the smug stakes.

    could ANYONE beat dick roche?

    Aren't you misrepresenting McWilliams there?
I always thought he forecast a bursting of the bubble and consequent downturn at some indefinite point in the future. In other words, he never tied himself down to saying "we will have a downturn next year".

I'd be interested to see if you can show otherwise.
    Mr. Class, just for you.
Quote from a post on this site

Crash predicted within two years. McWilliams warns of `Celtic Ostrich'.

    By Patsy McGarry. Irish Times.

The Irish economist who is reputed to have first used the term Celtic
Tiger has forecast that this State's economy is headed for a
crash "within the next year or two".

The date on the piece: 8 November 1998.
Fair enough so. Here's a link to an Examiner report on McWilliams' prediction: http://archives.tcm.ie/irishexaminer...1/02/bhead.htm

Comically incorrect or ahead of his time? I guess we'll take our pick according to our prejudices...
