On this election a number of good Councillors lost their seats because of national matters, which is a shame. I think that DLRCOCO is going to be a difficult place to work over the next five years due to finance problems and also a complete imbalance of elected Councillors. I think FG and LAB will be spend most of there time in disagreement and with PBP failing to have any real impact along with FF who have now only four seats.

Yep but a couple of uselss Cllr's kep their seats too, Tony Fox being re-elected was a damning verdict on the people of Dundrum, the man is a crook.

I agree having PBP on the Council will be a nuisance as they'll simply seak to obstruct. The wiping out of the Greens, 75% of whom were co-opted has to be good news. A very powerful, harmonious FG/Lab pact could deliver real results

A shame FG couldn't have managed the vote better & brought Louise over the Stillorgan, same with O'Higgins in Dun Laoghaire. The votes were there & it could have easily been FG in control with the help of 2 well disposed Indp's, all the same I was delighted my man got in up in Glencullen & the party did so well overall

A number of poor Cllr's kept their seats across all parties apart from the Greens, they lost them all...

"A FG/LAB pact could deliver real results", I'am not so sure on that one, I think it will be delivering some very real disagreements between them and it won't be long before the cracks will appear as the hard decisions have to be made, remember the levies are drying up fast from development and FG/LAB alliance in DLRCOCO already pushed up the commercial rates at the start of this year to fill a hole of €400.000 where to next as you can't deliver real results without the funding.....

Be fair. It's a damning verdict on the 10.3% who gave Fox a 1st preference and the smaller percentage who gave him a lower preference. Most of us here see the 'local' man (great for footpaths and grass verges!) for the corrupt b'stard that he is.

Letter in Today's Irish times from a 'Barry Ward'

Madam, – I read with dismay the ill-informed views of Michael J McCann (July 9th) on new criminal justice legislation and the motives of criminal lawyers in writing to this paper.

As long as we in Ireland couch criminal legislation only in terms of the potential victim, we run the risk of seriously compromising the important safeguards that have been constructed over time to protect us all.

Criminal legislation is necessarily a balancing act and, in order properly to legislate in this area, new measures must be viewed through the eyes of the person who is wrongly accused. I wonder how Mr McCann would feel if the measures contained in the new act were uncompromisingly applied to a brother or sister, or son or daughter of his, who claimed to be absolutely innocent?

The erosion of these protections is a danger to us all. The standard we must apply is not the conviction of the guilty at all costs, but the protection of the innocent. – Yours, etc,

Is this the new cllr ? Gosh, this is the first time, by my reckoning, that I've ever agreed with a Fine Gaeler. I like this guy. But won't the hang=em=high types in FG be a bit cross ?

One thing that "Barry Ward" fails to state , if it was his brother or sister, son or daughter that has been murdered ( God Forbid ) by someone who has a passed history but has been getting away with it or serving small sentences , would he be happy..... I think not... If your innocent your clearly innocent if your guilty you pay the price
Time to get tough and protect the victims....

Ward is one of the most progressive guys I know in Fine Gael, and speaks his mind - including to hang-em-high types. Wouldn't surprise me if that was him.

Thats good to hear. I'm not a naturally FG inclined but I thought there was something good about him in the way he carries himself and the expression on his face ;-) He's got a nice way about him. Agree with him in his letter as well. I think I did give him a preference as I wanted him in (he attended local residents association meetings) instead of Louise Cosgrave who wasn't seen or heard from, from one election until the next.
