Is there a place for the INP?

Can you imagine that a new party would emerge to the Irish political life? I call that new party INP along the lines of the BNP. Do you think the present parties cover all possible viewpoints or could there be a place for such a protest party? I'm not only talking about xenophobia, which is the top issue of the BNP, but a general disillusionment with the democratic system.

In most Western-European countries disillusionment manifests itself through low turn-outs at elections. In one country with very high turn-outs, Denmark, there is a sc. protest-party, the Danish People's Party, which is shunned by the rest but yet grow in popularity because they say some things aloud which other parties dare not say, especially about immigration.

Having said that, the Irish electoral system of STV would work against such a party as parties like that have their supporters but everyone else hates them intensely. It would be hardly anyone's second or third preference.

The BNP are already setting up some in some form in Ireland and have done for years. Considering much of their founders were people with some links back to this place it's just surprising that they haven't much support. They have/had some kind of "Save Ireland" sectio on their website once but I supose they see themselves as representing Ireland within the BNP too.

The British National Party exists to secure a future for the indigenous peoples of these islands in the North Atlantic which have been our homeland for millennia. We use the term indigenous to describe the people whose ancestors were the earliest settlers here after the last great Ice Age
I can understand their wish to see more careful immigration policies but at the end of the day I think they're simply preying on the fears of a section of society who feels forgotten (i.e. the working class). Unlike almost anywhere else in Europe, Britain (and to an extent Ireland) is a very class based society which has created a very disenfranchised community. I'm not one of these "class warriors" but sometimes I sort of envy you in Finland and the rest of Scandinavia.

Yeah, it belongs to that pathetic loon feenxp who's registered on p.ie under multiple user names and been banned multiple times. Based on his posts he appears to be either an Englishman (possibly with Irish ancestry) living in Ireland or an Irishman who's lived so long in England that he's not sure what nationality he is anymore. Either way he's an immigrant himself.

You can read the 'A Message from FEENXP' thread to get a flavour of what he's like.

http://www.irishnationalparty.net/ is the website. Impressive it ain't!

Pat Talbot First Preferences 2007: 239

John Donnelly First Preferences 2007: 286

    Áine Ní Chonaill First Preferences 1997: 293 - First Preferences 2002: 926

All members of the Immigration Control Platform.

So whatever about the protest vote on immigration issues alone, no.

Though Leo Varadkar came quite close to immigrants-will-kill-you-in-you-beds scare mongering in the last election.

Will we see an INP? Never say never.

No he did'nt - but at least he had the balls to at least acknowledge the anger that is out there.

For the record I don't think an 'INP' akin to the BNP will emerge here either - but we could see a Party emerge that includes Immigration Control as a major part of its political platform - I hope so anyway.

Well I hope not. The rise in racism in this country, even the unvoiced one, is a little offputting to be honest but I've my fingers crossed that it's all just a knee jerk reaction to the large numbers of immigrants we've had. I'm fully supportive of tackling the immigration issue and making it more common sense with appropiate quotas but i's a slippery slope to an all out fascist styled party. We've had enough of that already

Hmmm. Let's try and think of a name for a party 'that includes Immigration control as a major part of its political platform'. How about the Immigration Control Platform? No doubt candidates associated with it would win tens of thousands of votes at a general election.

Maybe if they added their votes together. Actually, no, not even then.
