Because it would make Varadkar look weak in giving into SF/FF, he can't do that.

Sacking her is the expedient thing to do , not the right thing.

I have gone to my favoured political anorak, and he is not offering any odds on a 2017 election and 1/3 on a 2018 election.

Next Tainiste , Paschal at 7/4.

On the contrary it would make him look like a strong leader by nipping this in the bud.

FG: 50 to 55. Some gains offset by modest losses.

FF: 44 to 51. Will make modest gains.

SF: 23 to 25. Padraig McLochlainn will regain a seat in DL. Not sure they will pick up much extra this time out, feels like a limit to their support at present.

Lab: 7 to 6. Assuming someone or two retire and O'Riordain makes a comeback.

Solidarity PBP: 6 to 5. More likely to lose a seat (Brid Smith) than gain.

Soc Dems: 2 to 3. Gary Gannon good chance of a seat in North Central.

Green: 2 to 1. Catherine Martin not safe.

Others: 24 to 12. Way down.

Confidence and Supply - Mark 2

FG will prop up a FF minority Government because some of the Irish electorate will think it is a good thing.
Brexit, Germany in limbo, Trump proliferating, keep the house price rising etc.
The state needs the status quo, just coz, like, d'ya know what I mean...
