    Bloody hell!

    I didn't see that coming!

I suppose she wants her own mandate.

It seems a bit reckless in a way when we've got Brexit to deal with already.

Mind you it's very soon so I suppose we'll have a new government soon and it's obvious she'll lead it, so I suppose it might strengthen her position and leave her free to negotiate.

I thought the Fixed Term Parliament Act meant she couldn't do this though?

Still, I love a good election so this will be fun!

And it should get rid of that fool Corbyn and allow Labour to begin the slow process of rebuilding...

And destroying Labour will be the cherry on top. Although in fairness, Labour have been doing a pretty good job of destroying themselves. Corbyn for PM!!

Lets see if the remainers are all mouth and no trousers..........

The British people get to decide definitively whether they want to stop the EU interfering in their sovereign matters.........

    My predictions

It will spell the end of the Labour Party as we now it.

    Lib Dems will recover massively

Torys will have a serious majority

Turnout will closest to lowest ever

No big move in NI, UU and SDLP may lose out further to DUP and SF

Scotland will be more SNP than ever.

True, but he has no option in this case. He can't be seen to run from a GE.

She had to do this at some stage - she and her cabinet had no 'popular mandate' from the voters. It was Cameron who got that.

One way of reading this is that her cabinet has realised that Brexit is a huge mistake and she is handing an opportunity to the electorate to throw her out and end the whole process.

All you assume that May is pro Brexit... Establishment Britain is not of that opinion.
