Wouldn't it be easier to just change the law? Then no referendum would be necessary.

Bunreacht is the primary source of law and and legislation must keep in that spirit.
We should not do what is easy, when trying to avoid pandering to people's personal beliefs on the public stage.

Add in a referendum on the removal of the Angelus and/or the secession of Cork - which is of course a great County.

There is no need for a referendum on either. One would need a management decision in RTÉ, the other would need a very big JCB.

    Article 40 currently reads:

As a firm believer in offence being taken rather than given, I am delighted with this announcement and cannot wait to banish it from a supposed republican constitution.

The law defines blasphemy as publishing or saying something “grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matter held sacred by any religion, thereby causing outrage among a substantial number of the adherents of that religion.”
    Finally!

Although I hope it's part of a Super Referendum Day, and not a standalone vote. In any case I support the removal of blasphemy from Bunreacht.

I await the wording, and any other clauses the government may try to attach/remove/alter.

Blast! Just too late to contribute.
Well, this is good news, but I don't want to see some makey-uppy offence about incitement to religious hatred shoehorned in to replace it.

Exactly! The Devil (not to mention, Jesus, Allah, Vishnu...) is in the detail.

What tool decided this was the most urgent and pressing change needed to the Irish constitution?
